For the past three years, I spend the last week of April feeling a mixture of pride and anxiety as we get nearer May 1st, and Brain Tumor Awareness Month’s kick off. The pride comes from the fact that thousands of members of the community are united in our cause to find new treatments and a cure for the disease. The anxiety? I feel it while making sure that the National Brain Tumor Society, as an organization, is providing you not only with the information you need, but with the right actions and activities that keep you motivated to be with us, to feel you’re on a team during Brain Tumor Awareness Month. NBTS is a society that goes beyond our offices and events. It’s made up volunteers; patients and survivors; family; advocates; doctors and researchers; and our corporate, industry and sponsorship partners.
In short, it’s you.
Last year, we had Brain Tumor Awareness Action Month, playing off our awareness month’s acronym (and hashtag): BTAM. This year, we’re looking to have you join us in actively spreading the word and raising funds to continue the fight for new treatments. #BTAM = #BTeAM in 2017.
We’re kicking off with sharing more infosnaps, and having a Facebook Live conversation on May 4 at 3PM Eastern with Samantha Masterson, our Chief Advancement Officer, who will go over the activities you can participate in this Month and all year long. She’ll also be answering questions from you, live. Like our Facebook page and stay tuned!
This is the year we can make incredible strides in brain tumor research, discovery, and change. Encourage your family, friends, and coworkers to join us throughout the month to fund the research that will bring the next wave of treatments. Get them to join the BTeAM.
Who or what could you not do without during your brain tumor journey? We want to know. Take a photo with our sign and post it to social media with #Graytful this month. We’re going to compile them for the month, posting them on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
Head to the Hill
May 8-9 is Head to the Hill. We’re heading to Capitol Hill with hundreds of advocates to tell Congress that the brain tumor community needs their support. If you can’t make it, in person, we encourage you to sign up to take action and call your elected officials and give voice to the needs of the brain tumor community.
#NBTSchat – Assemble Your Crew: Forming Your Brain Tumor Support Team
Are you on Twitter? On May 18 at 5pm, join NBTS as we host a Twitter chat with Greg Cantwell of Greg’s Mission and Sarah Vammen of the Cancer Support Community as we discuss and answer questions on how to create the best brain tumor support team for newly diagnosed and current brain tumor patients. You can follow the discussion using #NBTSChat.
