Brain Tumor Awareness Month (BTAM) 2018: Raising Our Voices Together

It’s May. And if you’ve been in the community for a year or more, you know that means it’s Brain Tumor Awareness Month (or #BTAM) in North America. This year, the National Brain Tumor Society is committed to providing you the resources you need as you’re raising awareness, fundraising, and advocating for the needs of the brain tumor community as a whole.

This post will detail what we’re up to this month, and even includes something we’d love you to do along with us to raise the profile of our disease.

To kick off this first week of BTAM, we’re releasing 14 Infosnaps for you to download and share with your social circles on social media with the hashtag #BTAM. Then, on May 3rd, 4pm Eastern, join Digital Communications Manager, Steven LaFond on Facebook Live to talk about the activities you can participate in, not only in May, but throughout the year. He’ll also be there to answer questions! Like our Facebook page and we’ll hope to see you on!

#BTSM Chat

We’re participating in May’s #BTSM chat this year. The Brain Tumor Social Media Tweet Chat was founded and run by brain tumor patients for brain tumor patients. The lively, real-time chat allows brain tumor patients to talk to doctors, researchers, and subject matter experts on a variety of topics. To participate, all you need is a Twitter handle and the #BTSM hashtag. The chat is happening on May 6, 2018 at 9pm Eastern.

Head to the Hill

May 6-8 is Head to the Hill. Hundreds of advocates from all over the country are heading to Capitol Hill to urge Congress to support the brain tumor community by increasing research funding and improve access to brain tumor treatments. If you weren’t able to join us this year, you can sign up to call and/or email your elected officials and give voice to the needs of the brain tumor community.

Come out to one of our signature or community events and meet other brain tumor patients, survivors, and their loved ones as we raise money for brain tumor research.

Infosnaps and sharing information

One of the biggest things we can do raise awareness and get people to take action is to use the hashtag #BTAM on social media to share information, photos, stories, and resources with people all over the world. This not only raises the profile of our disease, but allows you to share information you wish you had when you were diagnosed, or to ask questions about brain tumors that are seen by thousands of people. As a conversation starter, we’ve created these infosnaps that you can download and share on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and wherever else you wish.

Together, we can raise our voices together and recruit even more people to help us find new treatments and a cure for this disease that has affected so many lives.
