It’s Your Fight, It’s OUR Fight: Brain Tumor Awareness Month 2015

Brain Tumor Awareness Month kicks off on May 1. People from all over the United States come together and raise the profile of the brain tumor community and the issues we face. At NBTS, we’re exceptionally blessed to have a group of advocates, donors, partners, and volunteers who have sat down with us over the year and expressed that awareness is only a one half of the battle, the other half is how to empower the informed to make a change.

Here are some of the activities we have planned or are participating in for Brain Tumor Awareness Month (for more detail, visit our BTAM page):

#BTSM Twitter Chat

_1000x1000We will be participating in the #BTSM Tweet chat on Sunday, May 3 at 10PM ET/ 7PM PT. The theme will be Brain Tumor Awareness Month. Our Digital Communications Manager, Steven LaFond (me), will be providing useful links to resources, answering questions, and detailing the ways people can get involved in May. The #BTSM chats are run BY members of the brain tumor community and they’re a great resource for the newly diagnosed, people in remote areas, as well as the rest of us.

Walks, Races and Rides

If you’re looking to get out into the streets for Brain Tumor Awareness Month, we have five NBTS events you can attend and help us raise funds for our scientific research and advocacy programs.

Bay Area Brain Tumor Walk – Saturday, May 2, 2015
Race for Hope Washington DC – Sunday, May 3, 2015
Team Billy Ride and Walk for Research – Sunday, May 17, 2015
Boston Brain Tumor Ride – Sunday, May 17, 2015
San Diego Brain Tumor Walk – Saturday, May 30, 2015

Head to the Hill / Congressional Call-In Day

On May 4-5, more than 200 brain tumor advocates from 38 states are descending on Capitol Hill. Their mission: to give voice to the brain tumor community and urge Congress to support legislation and research that can lead to new treatments and an eventual cure for brain tumors. They’re bringing the facts, research, and the greatest tool of all, their personal experiences. If you want to know what you can do to help, you can take part in our Congressional Call-In Day on May 5. We’re all in this together.

Share Our Infosnaps and show your support for the cause.

#It’sYOURfight: What I Know Now

May 19– 31

What information were you looking for when you or a loved one was diagnosed? What answers did you get from your medical professionals and support team that you can share?

Bring your unique perspective and expertise to our two-week online Brain Tumor Awareness Month campaign, #ItsYOURfight. During the final two weeks in May, we will feature your tips, advice, and what you know about brain tumors or supporting someone you love who has a brain tumor. You can learn more about that here.

This is going to be a big month and we’re looking forward to interacting with you, learning about your experiences, and working together toward new treatments. It’s Your Fight, It’s OUR Fight. And together we’ll win.
