During the final months of 2019, NBTS announced a contest to let those in the brain tumor community with a creative touch submit their own custom artwork for consideration as the new design that will be featured on all 2020 NBTS Signature Event t-shirts.
A number of terrific entries were submitted, but ultimately only one could be declared the winner. So, without further ado, we’re excited to share the winner and his design with all our supporters.
This winning design was submitted by David Weissman, a 32-year old landscape architect from Long Island, NY, and recent brain tumor survivor.
“I was thrilled when I found out my design had been chosen,” says David. “This entry was very personal for me and I can not wait to see the NBTS community wearing these shirts across the country!”
David had surgery to remove his tumor less than a year ago, in March of 2019. He found NBTS while searching for information following his diagnosis and immediately got involved with the organization, participating in the 2019 New York City and Long Island Brain Tumor Walks. He plans to participate in the 2020 Long Island event again this year.
“I am inspired by the devotion and passion of the NBTS community,” says David. “I am moved by what many in this community have overcome and humbled by those less fortunate. I am forever grateful to the incredible team of surgeons at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia who saved my life in March of 2019. When I saw the call for submissions, I was compelled to submit.”
David describes his approach toward the design as such: “I wanted to play off the symmetry of the digits in the year 2020 and seamlessly incorporate the NBTS logo into a simple and versatile communication tool that could be used across platforms.”
We thank David, along with all others who submitted a design this year, and of course all the dedicated participants, team captains, volunteers, committee members, and sponsors who continue to support our collective mission by joining us at one of Walks, Races, Rides, and Plunges across the country. We hope to see you in 2020!
