Top Five Blogs: January – March 2018

In the first quarter of 2018, we launched a number of new features on the National Brain Tumor Society blog. At the same time, we continued to provide information and updates on issues and developments important to the brain tumor community.

Below is a round-up of the most popular brain tumor news and blog items from the NBTS site during the first three months of the year, as measured by YOUR readership and views. We hope you’ll enjoy catching up on anything you may have missed!

1. 2018 Crystal Ball: Predictions & Hopes for Advances in Brain Tumor Research and Treatments in the New Year

Every year, we ask some of the leaders in the field of brain tumor research and treatment to give us their predictions and/or hopes for the coming 12 months. To see what some of the brightest minds in the field are looking forward to this year, follow the link below.

2. Brain Tumor Facts & Figures, February 2018: Average-Years of Life Lost

Brain Tumor Facts & Figures blogs are one of the new features on this site for 2018. We began this series with a look how malignant brain tumors compare to other cancers on a specific measure of the burden disease inflicts on patients, their loved ones, and, indeed, all of America.

3. Glossary Blog, February 2018: CAR T-Cell Therapy

Another new feature for this year, Glossary blogs will take an in-depth look at, and give an explanation of, some of the terms related to brain tumor research and treatments that you may be hearing frequently. We began with a big one: CAR T-cell therapy, a new treatment approach that has garnered a lot of headlines and interest in recent months.

4. Advice Column, February 2018: Brain Tumor Treatment Options

Yet another new feature this year, Advice Columns are related to our new patient and care-partner education and preparedness initiative, particulary our Brain Tumor Experience web resources. We started with the topic that is, perhaps, at the crux of patient engagement in the brain tumor medical experience: treatment options and what to consider when deciding your course of care.

5. Brain Tumor Facts & Figures, March 2018: Cost of Care

In our second Facts & Figures blog of the year, we highlighted another statistic that can help make the case for support for this cause – whether it be in your fundraising, advocacy, or awareness-raising efforts – because it shows what this community is up against: the cost of brain tumor treatment, compared to other cancers.

We hope you’ll find these blogs and brain tumor news interesting and helpful. And, if you are so obliged, please share these posts with your friends, families, and networks on social media.
